Maleyah Johnson
Maleyah Johnson, a Chicago native, earned her Bachelor of Arts in Communication from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC). During her undergraduate studies, she worked as a Pharmacy Technician at Walgreens throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, becoming a certified immunizer and supporting community vaccination efforts. After graduation, she joined Amazon as an Operations Manager, gaining experience in team leadership, process improvement, and operational management within a large-scale organization.
Motivated by her interest in healthcare leadership, Maleyah returned to the University of Illinois system to pursue a Master of Healthcare Administration (MHA) at the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC). While pursuing her degree, she worked as a Program Assistant in Continuing Medical Education (CME) at the UIC College of Medicine, supporting educational programming for healthcare professionals. During the summer following her first year of graduate school, she interned with the Business Planning and Decision Support (BPDS) team at UI Health, where she supported service line planning and operational decision-making through market analyses, performance reporting, and strategic initiatives.
Outside of her academic and professional experiences, Maleyah remained actively involved in leadership and professional development opportunities. During her first year of graduate school, she competed in the National Association of Health Services Executives (NAHSE) Case Competition, where her team developed an artificial intelligence-based strategy to improve health plan member retention. She also participated in NAHSE's Emerging Leaders Cohort, a leadership development program focused on mentorship, networking, and professional growth. Additionally, she served as Vice President of Social Programming for the Association of Future Healthcare Administrators (AFHA) at UIC, helping create opportunities for student engagement.
As the Administrative Fellow at UI Health, Maleyah is excited to deepen her understanding of health system operations and gain exposure to a variety of clinical and administrative areas. She looks forward to learning more about nursing operations, quality improvement, and other aspects of healthcare while contributing to initiatives that support patients, staff, and the health system. Outside of work, Maleyah enjoys spending time with family and friends, trying new restaurants, and traveling.
