Protect Yourself from MyChart Scams
In recent weeks, there have been reports of scams targeting healthcare patients with fake emails, texts, and other messages alleging to have come from MyChart, the patient portal used at UI Health.
If you receive an unusual or unexpected message, stop before clicking links or sharing personal information.
Identifying Potential Scams
Scam and fraudulent messages may:
- Offer you a gift
- Ask you to click a link to pay a bill
- Ask you to share your password or other personal information
These messages may use routine language like “Your recent results are ready” or “You’ve been selected” before directing users to malicious sites.
Again: If you receive an unusual or unexpected message, stop before clicking links or sharing personal information.
Ways to Protect Yourself
If you receive a suspicious message, follow these rules for protecting yourself and your information.
- Check the sender and web address. Look closely at the sender’s full email address and the complete website URL before clicking a link, entering login information, or providing payment details. Small misspellings and extra words are common signs of fraud.
- UI Health’s MyChart URL is https://mychart.uillinois.edu
- Emails from the UI Health MyChart Team always will come from donotreply@uic.edu
- When in doubt, contact UI Health. If you’re unsure if a message or website is real, immediately call UI Health at 866.600.2263. Do not enter your login or payment information.
- Protect your password and verification codes. UI Health and Epic, the company behind MyChart, will never ask for your password or verification codes. The only safe place to enter them is the MyChart website or app. No one should ask for them by phone, text, or email.
- Keep communications private. UI Health and Epic will never ask you to change your email address or phone number to one you don’t control. Don’t forward messages from MyChart to others.
- Ignore “free” offers. Some messages promise free gifts or prizes in exchange for your information. These are most likely scams. MyChart does not run giveaways.
- Never run commands on your computer. MyChart will never tell you to press keyboard shortcuts or to run a command to “verify,” “fix,” or “unlock” your account.

- UI Health will never ask you to share your MyChart password or security code.
- Do not open links or attachments in suspicious messages.
